The 8 second date.

Met a man last night through MySingleFriend.com, when we spoke, he suggested meeting up at a pub which was about 30 miles away from me. I said I didn’t know where the village was but instead of suggesting another venue or asking where I would like to go he just said it was easy to find. During the conversation he awkwardly asked me if I was indeed slender as I had said in my profile, despite the oddness of the question, I assured him I was. He then asked if I had been on previous dates as he had “wasted his time” on dates who hadn’t wanted to see him again, he seemed to suggest this was because he had been on dates with people who hadn’t much expereience of internet dating and once they’d had the first date (with him) they had felt more confident and gone on to bigger and better things. My gut instinct was that this said more about him than the dates and to walk away but I gave him the benefit of the doubt and assumed he’d had a bad experience, haven’t we all. I drove to the venue (googled the place and used my satnav). Got out of my car and after a minute or two, my date appeared. I said hello, apologised for being a little late due to distance and traffic. We started to walk towards the pub but I sensed he wasn’t walking with me but was hanging back, I looked round and he asked me if I was alright with him. I was bewildered, I wasn’t even sure if he meant what I thought he meant, who asks such a thing so soon… at least give it an hour or so!! I was there wasn’t I ? I hadn’t run screaming when I set eyes on him. I hesitated with my answer, how could I possibly answer after 8 seconds aquaintance… He took my hesitation as a negative answer and just walked away from me, got in his car and drove away! Left me standing in the car park in a strange place, in the dark… how weird is that! It got worse, I drove home seething only to receive a text from him saying (sic) ”sorry im very astute to disinterest”. I replied with “clearly you are not very astute, what you took to be disinterest was my bewilderment at being asked a question I couldn’t possibly answer after 8 seconds. For what it’s worth I thought you seemed very nice and was looking forward to getting to know you. Walking away like that was at the very least breathtakingly ill mannered.” to which I received the following three texts… (sic) “Pity u didnt say something. but perhaps jst aswell. U were the rude one!” then, “And thanx for wasting my evening”, then, “Anyway why shld i buy a drink and waste my time wth someone who gives me a shit look! Go fool some other sucker”. I am left utterly flummoxed by this strange man. I didn’t have time to be rude, I was abandoned in a strange place because I hesitated over an unexpected question. He is right though, it is just as well I didn’t say anything to stop him leaving, he clearly has issues. This is not the behaviour of a rational, confident man. Beware Mysinglefriend users, his name is Ian.
